Chapter 16-1 & 16-2 Notes

Watch this video lecture on Energy in Earth's Atmosphere and Heat Transfer.  Be sure to complete the notes handout as you watch the video.  Remember, you can always pause the video, rewind where needed and replay if you need a review.  This one is a bit long, just over 16 minutes, but for my first attempt it will do.  I promise to try to keep the remaining lectures to 10 minutes or less.

Air Pressure & Wind -
What you need to know:

Click on the image to the left to view the Study Jams! video about air pressure and winds.  This gives a good summary of the different types of wind and what causes winds and does a good job of reviewing necessary vocabulary.  Check your understanding after the video by closing the video window and taking a quick quiz.

Assignment:  Identifying Global Winds

It is time to show what you have learned about global wind belts (from your reading and notes assignments) .  Let’s check!  Drag each of the boxes to it’s location on the globe below.  When you are finished, take a screenshot and submit the image  here:

Chapter 16-4 Notes:
Water in the Atmosphere

Remember to complete your notes handout as you view the slideshow to the right.  If you are not yet comfortable with the water cycle, you may want to return to the notes from Chapter 12 to review this very important process.

Assignment:  Clouds and Precipitation

What do you know about clouds?  Let’s take a moment to learn a little more by visiting StudyJams! and watching their slideshow on Clouds and Precipitation.  The link to the slideshow can be found by clicking on the image below.  A new tab will open and you will need to click on the green “Slide Show” button to begin.  After you complete the slideshow, click the “X” in the upper right corner of the slideshow window to return to the original link.  From here, click on the blue “Test Yourself” button.  This will give you a seven question quiz.  Do your best!  When completed, take a screenshot of your results (Shift+Command+3 for fullscreen or Shift+Command+4 to select portion of screen) and submit below:

Assignment:  Classifying Clouds Visually

As we discussed in class, you will look at the sky over the next few days and take a couple of good pictures of the cloud formations you see.  Review those images and find one in which you can clearly identify the types of clouds in the image.  Upload your image to your computer and using Pages, another word processor or Skitch (available for Mac or PC), add text boxes and/or arrows with text to  name the clouds in your image.  Save the file as a .jpg, .png, or .pdf file and submit it below:
